Personal Style 101: Staple Pieces and Wearing Whatever The F*** You Want.

It wouldn’t be a fashion blog if I didn’t talk about personal style. Groundbreaking, I know. But, even with it so widely discussed, this is a topic people still love to read and learn about - me included. Fashion is always changing and personally, so are we. So honing in on your own style is something that’s equally fun and a jump scare.
First things first, fashion is all about self-expression. There is no ‘right way’ to how you should dress. However, I believe that fit is super important. For example- over sized blazers. A piece every woman needs in their closet. But, it can be tricky. For me, I think it should look like it’s your boyfriend's jacket he left after spending the night but also like the cool girl who looks like she works at TheRow out for her cig break (not condoning smoking just to be clear, but you get the aesthetic). To find the perfect one, or multiple - I recommend going to your local Goodwill or consignment shop. There will be tons of different styles for a fraction of the cost. #sustainablequeen
Staple pieces are a necessity. Similar to the blazer - a cotton t-shirt, a good pair of denim, skinny if you prefer, though bootcut and boyfriend jeans is my go to. The perfect cardigan - grab a bunch, black, white, red, grey, a buttery yellow, you’ll thank me later. As well as pieces like a slip dress and a good trench coat. I can come up with 5 different outfits with those pieces alone. Style comes in when you start adding layers and textures and your unique spin.
With all of that being said, staple pieces to me can mean something different for you which is 100% what you should discover. However, the concept still remains the same. Creating looks with the items you have in your closet forces you to get creative instead of constantly buying or to trying to keep up with the latest trends. Having a good base in your closet is a great way to start. Choose the pieces that make you feel confident and comfortable (or uncomfortable, it's your world) then mix it up and find new ways to wear and accessorize it.
Something else to consider, trial and error. To me - that's the beauty of fashion. I'm not a masochist, of course I always want my outfits to hit, but being able to say "yikes- that's not it" (probably with tears and constantly over thinking it for the next month) helps you narrow down what works and what doesn't. Pro-tip, Pinterest is your best friend, record yourself wearing the outfit, the mirror is deceiving and if there's a bad picture... burn it.
